Born in a Dutch family with artistic talents, she was encouraged at an early age to be creative. She has fond memories of being a child of artistic parents. Especially her father who taught art for many years, and regularly worked with the family at home. She studied art in Europe at the Kunst Academy voor Beeldende Kunsten, Artibus in Utrecht, the Netherlands. In her work the artist uses acrylic paints and enamel on paper and canvas. In some of her work she uses oil pastels. Influenced by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, her work is modern abstract. She likes to create art without a definite direction, except for colors and prefers to stimulate the viewer’s imagination. For this reason many works are untitled allowing the freedom of personal impression. Even works that are titled compel the viewer to mentally visualize the artist’s intent. Karin’s artwork is created in stages allowing for creative energy to emerge with each new day, consequently each painting evolves through a variety of different perspectives. One of her featured works, “Artibus”, painted in 1984 while attending the Art Academy, shows an explosive emotional painting representing her initial challenges to express herself with paint.
